If you are in Gujarat, you may no longer have to wait for a month long process to get your vehicle registered by RTO and getting the high security registration plate (HSRP) fitted. Gujarat government has decided to issue the number plates before delivery to dealers so that consumers can get vehicles fitted with number plates at the time of delivery.
This crucial and citizen friendly decision has taken by Vallabh Kakadiya, minister of state (MoS), transport (independent charge), after holding a meeting with the car dealers and discussing the issue. The move will be implemented in Ahmedabad first within next two weeks followed by Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot. Eventually, whole state will be covered under this by next year.
This move will definitely improve transparency in the RTO registration process and also the owners will get rid of visiting RTO number of times to get the job done. The ministry is also working on a system where the vehicle owners will get RC books too on the day of the delivery.
Gujarat is also one of those very few states that has computerized track test system in order to get driving license for two and four wheeler vehicles. Also last month, the state government called off toll taxes for smaller vehicles and state transport buses on selected highways.
